FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany, March 9, 2026 - - Returning to AERO Friedrichshafen for its second year, aviation safety technology company SkyRecon today announced continued progress on its flagship product: a portable ADS-B receiver with a built-in traffic display and carbon monoxide detection. The device is the first to provide pilots with a built in screen and ADS-B receiver that delivers live traffic data from its own dual-band antennas and supplements it with over 30 additional traffic sources through its SafeSky integration. SkyRecon joins AERO 2026 (April 22–25) as a member of the EASA-led ADS-L Coalition, reinforcing its commitment to interoperable electronic conspicuity standards that support safer skies across European general aviation.

While ADS-B has significantly improved traffic surveillance for equipped aircraft, the general aviation fleet remains fragmented across multiple protocols, such as ADS-B, FLARM, Mode-S, OGN, ADS-L, and others, meaning that a receiver tuned to a single frequency or protocol will only ever see a portion of the traffic picture. Pilots who rely on a standalone ADS-B In receiver connected to a tablet see only ADS-B-equipped aircraft, potentially missing gliders, ultralights, paragliders, and drones operating on different systems.

SkyRecon’s portable receiver is designed to close this gap by combining two layers of traffic awareness in a single, self-contained unit:

  • Built-In Traffic Display: A round LCD screen provides an at-a-glance view of surrounding traffic directly on the device itself - no tablet, phone, or EFB required.
  • Dual-Band ADS-B Reception: The receiver monitors both 1090 MHz and 978 MHz frequencies simultaneously, capturing traffic data from transponder-equipped aircraft operating on either band. Data is output via the GDL90 protocol over Wi-Fi, maintaining full compatibility with popular EFB applications including ForeFlight, SkyDemon, and EasyVFR.
  • SafeSky Integration: Through its built-in SafeSky capability, the device aggregates traffic data from over 30 sources beyond ADS-B, including FLARM, OGN, Mode-S (MLAT), ADS-L, PilotAware, FANET, and drone remote ID. This supplementary data layer significantly expands the traffic picture to include gliders, ultralights, paragliders, and other aircraft that would otherwise be invisible to a conventional ADS-B receiver.
  • Portable and Self-Contained: Being battery-powered, the device requires no aircraft modification or installation. It is designed to work as a standalone safety tool or as a companion to an existing EFB setup.
  • Wireless EFB Connectivity: In addition to its own screen, the device streams all traffic data to tablets and smartphones via Wi-Fi, integrating into existing cockpit workflows for pilots who prefer to use ForeFlight, SkyDemon, EasyVFR, or other compatible navigation apps.

The SkyRecon portable ADS-B receiver is currently available for pre-order at https://www.skyrecon.net/. The company plans to begin fulfilling orders in Summer 2026. Attendees at AERO Friedrichshafen 2026 are invited to visit SkyRecon at booth A6-310 for a hands-on demonstration of the device.
